The Five Most Embarrassing Evangelical Reactions to the Election Results

When it became clear that Joe Biden had won the presidential race, many white evangelicals and Pentecostals were highly upset. While there obviously are exceptions, a surprisingly large number of white church-goers are convinced that voting Democrat is equivalent to child sacrifice and that this was an election between God and Satan.

Several Pentecostal and charismatic leaders even prophesied that Trump would win. Some, like Bethel Church leader Kris Vallotton, have apologized. Most have not – and they’re now struggling to justify what has happened.

Below is a list of the five most embarrassing reactions among evangelical leaders to the election results. As Trump himself has claimed that millions of votes were illegal, just like he did in 2016 and 2018 without any evidence whatsoever, many of his Christian supporters are trying to convince themselves and others that somehow he will win against all odds. Still, there are clear signs of panic and fear in these responses – a tragic consequence of them equating the Kingdom of God to the populism of Trump.

Kat Kerr: Trump winning by a landslide doesn’t mean what you think it means

Kat Kerr, who calls herself a revelator and prophetess, was one of those who prophesied that Trump would be reelected. In fact, she said that he would do so by a “landslide”. She now explains that a spiritual landslide is different from a human landslide, but she’s convinced that Trump will still win. Don’t hold your breath, Kat.

Terri Pearsons: Let’s have another election!

While some of us can’t thank God enough that this polarizing and destructive election season is over, pastor Terri Pearsons recently prayed that God would do whatever it takes to make sure Trump is reelected, including arranging yet another election.

I mean… I can think of at least ten cheaper and less exhausting ways for God to do “whatever it takes” to keep a lying narcissist in the White House.

Jeremiah Johnson: a lying spirit has filled out mouths… or Trump won

Prophet Jeremiah Johnson has become sort of a spokesperson for all the prophetic voices who predicted that Trump would win, and he makes sure to let us know that this is absolutely the result of a demon if Biden is inaugurated in January. He wrote in an email:

“Either a lying spirit has filled the mouths of numerous trusted prophetic voices in America or Donald J. Trump really has won the Presidency and we are witnessing a diabolical and evil plan unfold to steal the Election. I believe with all my heart that the latter is true.

“You read that correctly.

“Donald J. Trump won the 2020 election last night and the chorus of prophets who saw into the future and prophesied it were ACCURATE.”

Now, I’m not comfortable with raising the stakes to that degree. Like Bible scholar Craig Keener, I think one can do prophetic mistakes without being influenced by demons. Still, such mistakes should be taken very seriously.

Kenneth Copeland: HA HA HA HA HA

Televangelist and prosperity preacher Kenneth Copeland, who earlier this year tried to blow Covid-19 away and told those infected to ignore their symptoms, did not take the election results too seriously:

The robotic laughter, which at one point transforms into something quite hysteric, was apparently an expression of the Biblical phrase “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10) according to Copeland himself. He felt urged to release a follow-up video explaining that while it might sound like he hates Joe Biden, he actually loves him:

To my ears, there’s neither much joy nor love in Copeland’s laughter.

Paula White-Cain: Angels from Africa Bringing Victory, Victory, Victory

You’ve probably seen this already, but what can beat the fervent prayer of the outgoing president’s spiritual advisor and personal prosperity preacher Paula White-Cain? Her declaration of “victory” with the help of African angels has gone viral, with hundreds of music remixes available on YouTube.

As early as in May of this year, White-Cain declared “victory” over Trump and inserted his name in a Bible passage. She quoted Psalm 89:21 as “My hand will sustain President Trump; surely my arm will strengthen him.” (The Psalm is actually about King David).

It’s easy to laugh at all of this, but when you think about it it’s quite scary how deeply invested these people are into Donald Trump. He has a place in their hearts that nobody but Jesus should have. At PCPJ, we want to keep a critical distance to all politicians, including the new president Joe Biden. The Kingdom of God is not dependent upon a political party.

After all, Jesus clearly said: “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight… But now my kingdom is from another place.” (John 18:36).

  1. I’m not advocating either side and I think preachers should be a little more non-partisan and both sides of the electorate are corrupt. At the same time, this election has NOT been certified. The results are still pending recounts and/or lawsuits. Hold on Betsy!

  2. I find this deeply disturbing, shameful, and embarrassing as Donald Trump, his administration, Trumpism, and the evangelical maniacal devotion and support of this fraud have tarnished the witness of the Gospel message of salvation and hope in Jesus Christ. This man clearly has zero character and no evidence of the fruit of the Holy Spirit at work in his life. He is a power mongering narcissist, and sadly the so called “evangelical” church, who claim to obey the great commission as commanded by Jesus in Matthew 28 to make disciples of all the nations, have repelled the very people that need the message of hope that the Gospel provides by their devotion to a narcisistic, xenophobic, racist, misogynistic tyrannical dictator wanna be that clearly is in this for his own selfish purposes. I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to listen or take any evangelical Trump supporter seriously or listen to their message. It’s so opposite of who we are and supposed to be.

    1. As members of the body of Christ we are called to love not to hate. David was a man after God’s heart which the scripture clearly states. He murdered, and lusted after other men’s wives and even took one for his own….yet he repented and God still considered him to be one of his favorites.
You must look at Donald Trumps fruit for this nation…and for the gospel….he actually put America 1st…which no President has done since Reagan. He was pro life, pro prayer, and pro Free Speech from the pulpit for Conservative Pastors…..God has had me pray for him for 5 years extensively….and thru that prayer I have developed a deep love for him.
I hope that you will search your heart and discover why you have such disdain for him or why you think it is okay to disrespect people publicly with name calling on a public venue. It is not Christian. We are to love the sinner…not the sin…and hate the sin….not hate the sinner.
I did not like him much in the beginning either….but I sought the lord ( not the mainstream media) and went and saw Trump speak on multiple occasions and went and prayed over the 2017 inaguration which cost me $10k to do and God asked me to do.
Trump is definitely not the villain you have made him out to be. I believe he has had a true conversion experience recently…. and who could possibly withstand the constant, incessant word cursing this man has withstood if he didn’t have a personal relationship with God?.
I hope that you will search your own heart…and figure out which men in your past have hurt you…and go and get some personal healing. I hope that you will seek the Lord for His perspective on Donald Trump as I did. I hope that you will take the time to do the research and stop believing everything you hear and see on tv….because if we dont there will be nothing left of this country…or our churches…and we won’t even be allowed to assemble in the name of the Kingdom of the Great I AM anymore.
      Bless you.

      1. What about the constant lies, what about the children who died, what about the Russian loyalty against his own country, did not Jesus Christ say you can tell a tree by its fruit, you cute what David did to Uriah, yet David repented, trump declared he needs no forgiveness, this is monumentally satanic, trump demonstrated all the things King Solomon said that God hates, a proud look, a lying tongue, feet that run swiftly to mischief, hands that shed innocent blood, sewing discord among brethren, and you can’t see these things because you are too distracted by trumps whiteness. You need to go seek the real God, and not embrace a self made projection of the one from your own ass, thats why you’re willing to minimize the major crimes of that false satanic leader, and embrace him as a messiah.

      2. God resist the proud. Those that exalt themselves will be humbled. Sending cult followers to try to stop an election and try to hang Mike Pence was not of God. Trump’s out of control pride and idolatrous cult is not of God. Read the Bible.

    2. I agree. The purpose of a pastor is not to prophesy his or her will but God’s Will be done. I have stopped attending church because of all this evil. President Trump helped racists feel comfortable in going to the streets. Also, he lied every time he opened his mouth and evangelicals knowing the Word of God, supporting someone putting others down to make himself look good, was not Godly. I am glad people are opening their eyes and seeing we have no place for a Trump CULT in America. God spared us all by his grace and metcy.

  3. Prophets, who came out and predicted that President Trump would win. Remember just as you lied on God, or projected your hope, opinion and desire. Repent because you said God told you, or you out right lied on God. You should all repent to God and apologize to the people.Maybe you really dis think God told you that President Trump would win. Either way, you were wrong. Say I messed up, God did not tell me, I mistook what God said or what my heart was desiring. As a person who calls themselves the Pastors, Evangelicals of Gods sheep, you have to lead with The voice of God, Repent and do better next time.

  4. I totally agree, when the day comes when each of them, have to go in front of God, and be accountable for all of the misleading things they have done and said, if they don’t repent, hell is going to be a busy place.

  5. The difficulty is that these people have (and probably not for the first time) broken the third commandment by taking the name of their Lord in vain. In saying to people who are influenced by them that God is on Trump’s side (as opposed to Trump being on God’s side) they carry the responsibility of teachers leading His little ones astray. God help us.

  6. Wow, what an embarrassment you are going to be to our father, if you do not see the error of your ways. Joe Biden won nothing. He and his team have attempted to stage a coup. You have apparently lost any faith you may have had in God, but God is not bound by your ability to understand or see what is going on. God will have his way with this land and He will do it in His own way, in His own time. Don’t be prey to the enemy by falling for the decite! Get a grip and stand up for what you know is truth.

    1. Are you seriously suggesting that I have lost my faith in God due to the fact that I acknowledge the objective reality of Biden being the US President?

The last time I checked, Christian faith had nothing to do with a narcissist playboy named Donald Trump. You seem to think differently.

    2. Ohhh Kristin, sweet, ignorant Kristin. It has been 8 months since you spewed this vile nonsense, and Joe Biden is still president for better or worse. Anyone with capacity for critical thinking can see through Trump’s lies about the election, every claim is nothing more than noise and obfuscation, at best a gross misunderstanding of how election processes are carried out in each state. It takes a special brand of confirmation bias to completely ignore every refutation of Trump’s lies and continue to believe he managed to win despite being the least popular president in US history by the numbers. This is an absolute undeniable proof of the Bible’s veracity when it talks about a great delusion. Wake up.
